How We Got Here
Many of my most formative memories as a child are sitting at a table with my grandparents playing games. Those moments taught me connection, patience, and how shared experiences bring generations together. I learned that the best times aren’t rushed or transactional; they’re intentional and human.
I was born in Seoul, South Korea, and grew up in Minnesota. I graduated from the Air Force Academy, served in the Air Force, and then followed my dream to become an attorney, ultimately becoming a partner in a leading law firm and later, General Counsel and Chief Legal Officer at several biotech corporations. While my professional experiences are varied, my core tenets remain constant: live with integrity, serve others, and make the world a little better than I found it.
I started playing Mahjong as we emerged from the isolation of the COVID-19 pandemic. The strategy, the style, the sound of shuffling tiles - the game brought me to the table, but the community and sense of belonging kept bringing me back.
I decided to create Montahj Social – a home for Mahjong as a social ritual, where people form generational friendships, share experiences, and build upon timeless traditions.
I invite you to join me at the table.
Why We’re Here
We need community. We need places where no one has to host, perform, explain, or rush. We need spaces that hold us long enough for trust to form and relationships to deepen through play.
Montahj is a female-founded, veteran-owned brand committed to creating human connections. We preserve and honor the heritage of Mahjong—Chinese roots, Jewish-American stewardship, global impact—while elevating the experience into a fun, modern social club.
We exist to create a home where everyone has a seat at the table to be their authentic selves—to live louder, laugh harder, and love stronger. We exist for you.
